Bread

Bounty in the Land of Plenty

Working with folks experiencing houselessness, I was struck by the irony of a donation of three enormous overflowing bags of bread from Panera, and the fact that people could not take the food (think: animals invading tents, bread going bad, lack of nutrition, etc.). How painfully offensive that we produce so much excess while people starve? Good intentions can only go so far and sometimes, no matter how much good we mean, they do nothing. Giving houseless folks a bunch of food they can’t use is almost a slap in the face and about as ridiculous as wearing only a hat to stay warm in the winter.

We have to look, listen, and fix the actual problems.
